Peste Noire Forced Off Blastfest By Extreme Left Political Group

Peste Noir has apparently been forced off the Blastfest 2017 bill due to "extreme left political groups," which presumably means Antifa, although the organization isn't specifically named.

In light of the cancellation, Horna voluntarily dropped off the bill as well. Oddly, these unnamed political groups don't seem to have a problem with Phil Anselmo appearing. The organizers of the festival comment:

"In light of the festivals partners receiving pressure from extreme left political groups, Blastfest organisers regretfully have no other choice than to cancel the appearance of French extreme metal band Peste Noire at 2017’s rendition of the Bergan, Norway based festival.

"As much as we love the brilliant music of Peste Noire, and how much we have stated that we are a musical platform, and no politics are involved in our concept, the amount of political focus created due to this booking, is badly affecting our existence. Our partners have been pushed very hard, and we now reached the point where we had to decide to stand by our choice, and ultimately cancel the whole festival, or cancel Peste Noire. So, we will keep going, creating a great metalfest for all metalheads, unfortunately without Peste Noire.

"Finland’s Horna, who were also booked to perform at festival has made the decision to also pull out of the line-up in solidarity with their friends in Peste Noire and as a stand against the politically charged pressure that resulted in the decision.

"The four day music festival, running from 22nd – 25th February 2017, has already announced a packed and varied line-up including an exclusive heavy set from Devin Townsend Project, an exclusive Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered set from Marduk, and with more bands including appearances from ex Bolt Thrower & Benediction members new band Memoriam, Between The Buried & Me, Dying Fetus, Hell, Akercocke and the world debut performance of Phil Anselmo’s new Scour project."
