Steven Tyler revealed to
RollingStone.com that he recently cut what he calls a "dark, smoky backroom rendition" of the band's classic track
"Janie's Got A Gun" for
"Jane Got A Gun", an upcoming American action-drama western film directed by
Gavin O'Connor and written by
Brian Duffield. The film stars
Natalie Portman as
Jane Hammond,
Ewan McGregor as
John Bishop,
Joel Edgerton as
Dan Frost, and
Rodrigo Santoro as
Fitchum. The film is produced by
Handsomecharlie Films,
Scott Pictures,
Boise Schiller Film Group, and
Straight Up Films. It was shot in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is scheduled for a September 4 release.
"Janie's Got A Gun" was written by
Tyler and
AEROSMITH bassist
Tom Hamilton and was the second single from the band's
"Pump" album in 1989. It peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990, and also made it to No. 2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
